Isn't a "server" really just a big PC? |
|
In a word, no. Although you might get that idea, especially from more basic servers in regular tower-style cases that at first glance might look just like an average workstation. Generally, a server is a much more powerful machine, often with multiple CPUs, and it runs critical applications that really can't afford to have any downtime. Servers typically run 24/7, and as such need specific designs and components to ensure they are stable running 24 hours a day for years at a time. At Northrup Systems we can custom-design a server to meet virtually any need, from basic single-CPU file servers to large-scale multi-CPU machines with vast RAID arrays and redundant power supplies to run enterprise-critical applications. |
