We highly recommend downloading video card drivers from the chipset manufacturer, rather than the card vendor...in other words, if you have, say, an Asus brand ATI Radeon X1900 video card, get the latest driver for it from ATI rather than from Asus.  Generally, you will find more up-to-date drivers on the chipset manufacturer's site than on the video card vendors site.

Similarly to video cards, you can also download drivers for sound cards directly from the chipset manufacturer - again, these are often more current drivers than you would get from the card manufacturer.  For example, if you have a Chaintech AV-710 sound card with the Via Envy chipset, get the latest driver from the Via website rather than from Chaintech.
